Amber Yum

Amber Yum

Diagnosed: ALL, 2002
Ethnicity: Korean
Location: Carlstadt, NJ

Amber was diagnosed with ALL on January 20th, 2002 when she visited a hospital with flu like symptoms. After 12 months of chemotherapy and treatment, the family was told that her last chance for survival was a marrow or stem cell transplant. A big campaign immediately insued. With the help of CLLF, Churches, media, friends and family, many drives were held in the Korean community to find Amber a matching donor. Starting in Janauary to April 2003, more than 4,000 people registered as potential hopefuls. A close enough match was located, and Amber had her transplant at the end of April 2003. Sadly, she suffered from post transplant complications and passed away.
