Helen Lau

Diagnosed: AML, October 2002
Ethnicity: Chinese
Location: Troy, Michigan

Update: Sadly, Helen passed away in 2004 without finding a match.

"Helen Hai-Chu Lau is a 52-year-old Christian, wife, mother, daughter, sister and engineer. She was born in Taiwan of Shandong origin, and immigrated to the US in 1969 after a few formative years spent in Libya. She left Taiwan for Libya with her family because her mother was an MD assisting the pre Kaddafi Libya at the time. She graduated as an Electrical Engineer in 1973 and prac-ticed engineering in various capacities. Her last engineering job was with the Chrysler Corporation and she chose a more personally satisfying life style after Chrysler was taken over by Daimler Benz. She is a proud mother of a 22-year-old daughter pursuing electrical engineering and fine arts at the University of Michigan. She has been married for 29 years to Ian Lau, an immigrant from Macau in southern China. Her husband, daughter, mother, two brothers and a sister all love her. She is one of us and is very much like the rest of us - a hard working Chinese American following all the rules and making the best of bounties here. Helen accepts God’s plan for her. She still has a lot of living to do. She wants to see her daughter get married and have children of her own. She wants to spend time with her family. She wants to travel and see places she has never been. She wants to help others in need. She has leukemia and needs help now in the form of a match for a stem cell transplant. Please help."
