Sadly, Peter Mirabile, 18, of Garden City passed away on September 20th 2003 from post transplant complications. Diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia at age 7, Peter bravely fought this disease. He volunteered as a junior fire fighter and also became a explorer for the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Throughout all these activities, plus his own medical treatment, Peter was determined to graduate from High School, which he accomplished with the help of home tutoring.

Mirabile's integrity and sense of duty touched many lives. "He is my hero," said Kathy Mirable, his mother. The knowledge and understanding he gained from living with a serious illness inspired Peter Mirable to help others." - Newsday, 10/2/03

We are very saddened by the passing of this young boy. Peter's story was out before this foundation was established and he was a source of inspiration for us. Our heart goes out to Peter and his family.
